Our 3" cases are designed for displaying items over 1", but under 2" in thickness.  The 2" depth is filled with two 1/2" layers of foam covered with a velour-like top layer in your choice of seven rich colors.  You can adjust the thickness of the interior foam by simply removing one layer if necessary.  Items are gently held in place against the double strength glass front by the light pressure of the foam, giving items a "suspended" appearance.

This is the recommended depth for most pistols and lever action rifles.
